More Updates

Vernon Davis aggatates Coach Nolan

Vernon Davis had only one catch in Sunday's game. After the catch, he shouted at the 49ers' sideline, angering head coach Mike Nolan, reports the San Jose Mercury News. "He got a little excited, yes he did, and I told him to sit down," said Nolan.

Our View: Davis has been a huge disappointment in the Mike Martz offense, and this action probably won't make matters any better.

Warner remains the starter

Kurt Warner committed six turnovers on Sunday, but Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt never thought about removing him for Matt Leinart and Warner remains the starter, The Arizona Republic reports.

Our View: Warner was still highly productive for fantasy owners with 472 yards and two touchdowns. He has been very effective this season for the most part, and his job seems safe.

Tests on Boldin negative

Boldin had precautionary tests for a head injury on Sunday, but tests were negative and he was able to move all of his extremities after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit on Sunday and leaving in an ambulance, reports the Arizona Republic. "The tests were all negative, which is great news, and it looks like he'll be heading back with us tonight." team president Michael Bidwill said. Boldin also needed stiches for a cut to his lip.

Our View: This is obviously very good news for what looked like a scary situation at the time. We will continue to provide updates on his status throughout the week.

Tomlinson rushes for 106 yards, two scores

Tomlinson had his best yardage game of the season on Sunday at Oakland, getting 20 carries for 106 yards and touchdowns. He also caught two passes for nine yards.

Our View: That's the old LT that fantasy owners know and love, but Tomlinson struggled for most of the day until he broke a 41 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The toe seems healthy enough.

Campbell has big game vs. Cowboys

Campbell had an excellent game in Week 4 vs. Dallas, completing 20-of-31 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

Our View: The ultra-efficient Campbell now has six touchdown passes and no interceptions this season. He is going unnoticed by many but might be worth starting by fantasy owners due to his consistency.

Big day for Jackson

Running back Steven Jackson starred in the Week 4 loss to the Bills. He rushed 24 times for 110 yards and a touchdown, and he added five catches for 78 yards.

Our View: It's nice to see Jackson finally find the end zone and have a monster day. He is looking more like the first-round fantasy stud we expected, but we still have plenty of worries about his teammates.

Cutler throws for 361 yards

Jay Cutler completed 29-of-49 passes for 361 yards and one touchdown against two interceptions in the Week 4 loss to Kansas City.

Our View: Cutler has came back down to earth a little bit during the past two weeks after starting the season on fire. In the first two games of 2008, Cutler posted six touchdowns against one interception. During the past two weeks, he has thrown three touchdowns against three interceptions. Regardless, he is on the brink of joining the elite at his position and should be in your lineup every week.

LJ runs roughshod over Denver

Running back Larry Johnson lugged the football 28 times for 192 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 4 victory over Denver.

Our View: Johnson also compiled five receptions for no yards, but still made his PPR owners happy with those five extra points. In the past two games, LJ has compiled 52 carries for 319 yards and three touchdowns. He also showed he still has some burst with a 65-yard gallop in the game against the Broncos.

Edge hits pay dirt twice

Running back Edgerrin James carried the ball nine times for only 29 yards, but he scored two touchdowns in the Week 4 loss to New York.

Our View: James, who chipped in five receptions for 37 yards, scored for the first time since Week 17 of last season.

Rodgers may have separated shoulder

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will undergo testing on his right shoulder on Sunday night or Monday morning. Rodgers tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette that he thinks he separated his shoulder but isn't sure.

Our View: We should know more within the next day or so. Even if it's a separation, Rodgers won't necessarily miss Week 5.

Coles surpasses century mark

Wide receiver Laveranues Coles caught eight passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 4 win over Arizona.

Our View: After four games, Coles has compiled 257 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Favre goes off in win over Arizona

Quarterback Brett Favre completed 24-of-34 passes for 289 yards with six touchdowns against one interception in the Week 4 victory over Arizona.

Our View: After four games Favre has thrown 12 touchdown passes, proving he still has a lot of juice in that right arm. It also appears that the chemistry issues between he and Laveranues Coles were greatly exaggerated, as Coles pulled in three of the scores.

Ocho Cinco scores in loss

The artist formerly known as Chad Johnson posted three receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 loss to Cleveland.

Our View: Things were bad with Carson Palmer in the lineup, and worse this week without him. Johnson might have scored, but after four weeks he has only 116 receiving yards.

Huge day for Brees

Quarterback Drew Brees completed 23-of-35 passes for 363 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the Week 4 win over the 49ers.

Our View: Who needs Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey, right? Brees has outings of 343, 363 and 421 passing yards through four games, and he remains an elite fantasy option.

Muhammad stars in win

Wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad caught eight passes for 147 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 win over the Falcons.

Our View: Life sure is easier with Steve Smith on the other side, huh? Muhammad won't be a consistent fantasy contributor, but he can clearly still show up against weaker defenses.

Updates 9/29

Linehan trying to trade Holt?

Rams head coach Scott Linehan is attempting to trade or release wide receiver Torry Holt because their relationship is to the point that they despise each other, according to Howard Balzer of InsideStL.com.

Our View: Linehan recently told the media that the relationship between he and Holt was "great," though they have never really seemed to be on the same page. This really can't end soon enough for Rams fans.

Curtis could play Week 5

There is a possibility that Eagles receiver Kevin Curtis will play Week 5 when the team takes on the Redskins, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Curtis has been out with a sports hernia. He certainly deserves the attention of fantasy owners upon his return, especially with the way the Eagles are moving the ball this season.

Fargas will remain starter

Oakland running back Justin Fargas will remain the team's starter at running back when he gets healthy, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Fargas has only played in two games, but he's played well, rushing for 5.2 yards per carry on 27 rushes. He will not play Week 4, but his status after that is up in the air.

Linehan gone if Rams lose

Rams head coach Scott Linehan would become ex-Rams head coach if the team loses on Sunday to the Buffalo Bills, according to BuffaloBills.com. The website referenced Peter King as reporting this during halftime of Saturday's Notre Dame game.

Our View: Linehan has been a complete disaster as a head coach. He's also had a busy week - benching Marc Bulger, releasing one of their better cover corners in Fahkir Brown and making many changes to the starting lineup on defense. Chances are excellent that the Rams lose to Buffalo, and hopefully team owner Chip Rosenbloom also cans GM Jay Zygmunt, who is equally responsible for the team's utter horrendousness.

Keller to be more involved

The New York Jets want to get rookie tight end Dustin Keller involved in the passing game more often, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Using their athletic tight end would add another element to the team's offense. Keller has just five catches for 60 yards and one touchdown. Fantasy owners should take note of this report and pay attention to the number of targets Keller receives in the team's contest against the Cardinals.

Gramatica on hot seat

New Orleans kicker Martin Gramatica is dangerously close to losing his job if he continues to struggle, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Gramatica missed a potential game-winning kick last week in Denver. He is 3-for-5 on field goal tries this season, though to be fair, only one of those tries has been under 40 yards.

Williams may lose carries

Panthers starting running back DeAngelo Williams may lose carries to rookie Jonathan Stewart if he does not perform better soon, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Stewart has 145 rushing yards to Williams' 144, but in eight fewer carries. He also has three touchdowns to Williams' zero. The one thing that may separate them is that Williams is better as a receiver out of the backfield and has four catches, while Stewart has none. Still, it is becoming increasingly clear that Stewart will be the one garnering carries as the year rolls forward.

Jones to get the ball more

Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said the the team needs to find more ways to get the ball to leading receiver Matt Jones according to the Florida Times-Union.

Our View: Jones, who has caught 16 passes for 173 yards this season, has emerged from what appeared to be his last season in Jacksonville to become the team's go-to receiver. However, Jerry Porter makes his debut this weekend and could detract from Jones' targets.

Updates

Witten is a go

NFL.com reports that Jason Witten (shoulder) participated fully in practice on Friday and is expected to play on Sunday.

Our View: Witten's already racked up 206 yards in two games with no touchdowns. He is arguably the best tight end in the game and should find the end zone very soon.

McFadden expected to start Friday

Darren McFadden returned to practice Thursday, albeit with a steel plate over his right big toe according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He's expected to start Sunday. "You think you see a guy with turf toe, 'Oh, it's just a toe, he can go with it,'" McFadden said. "Once you get it, you understand why because every move that you make on it ... it's pretty painful."

Our View: His number of carries will depend on how the foot responds and holds up on the artificial turf in Buffalo. Look for Michael Bush to play an expanded role with Justin Fargas likely out with his groin injury. The Bills at home are a tough matchup for any running back, so consider McFadden a risky start this Sunday.

Jackson ruled out

Darrell Jackson has been ruled out for Week 3 due to a strained calf according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Jackson is buried on the Broncos' depth chart and this injury means he will likely stay there. He holds little to no fantasy value at this point.

Tomlinson will be limited

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that LaDainian Tomlinson is expected to be limited Monday against the New York Jets. The same publication reports that he looked good early in Friday's practice.

Our View: Expect another game similar to last week from LT. Against a formidable Jets defense, 100 combined yards for the nicked-up running back is rather optimistic.

Taylor benched

Courtney Taylor has been benched according to the The News Tribune. Earlier in the week, the receiver was expected to start on Sunday.

Our View: The Seahawks are not deep enough to "bench" a receiver so expect Taylor to be on the field for a dozen or so snaps regardless of his standing with coach Mike Holmgren. Against the Rams, he is still a decent, but no longer good, play.

Edwards listed as questionable

Braylon Edwards (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens according to the team's website.

Our View: Even if he does go on Sunday against the Ravens, don't expect him to bust out of his slump. Baltimore's secondary is exceptional and Edwards is still getting into regular season form after missing much of the preseason.

Colbert to start

Keary Colbert will replace Courtney Taylor in the Seahawks starting lineup against the Rams this Sunday according to the The News Tribune. He joined the team earlier this week and has already impressed coach Mike Holmgren enough for him to make him the starter.

Our View: Colbert is suddenly a strong play for Week 3 against the league's 32nd ranked defense. He is likely on your waiver wire so don't hesitate to pick him up. However, Bobby Engram and Deion Branch could be back in the coming weeks decreasing Colbert's long-term value.

Robinson questionable against Rams

Koren Robinson was limited in practice on Friday because of a sore knee according to the Seattle Times. "He's got a little issue with his knee," coach Mike Holmgren said. "I don't think it's serious, but I want him to feel good when we put him out there. He hasn't been playing much football in the last four or five months. We have to wait and see. That will be a Sunday decision."

Our View: He went on to say that it was a possibility Robinson would not play on Sunday which makes him a very difficult start in fantasy leagues.

Galloway ruled out

Updating a previous report, Joey Galloway has been ruled out for action in Week 3 according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The same source also claims Galloway's intensity amd determination has not been there this season and that team officials are starting to worry about the contributions the 36-year-old can make this season. If you can get something for Galloway in a trade still, try your best.

Walker expected to play

Javon Walker practiced Friday and is expected to play Sunday at Buffalo, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View: This is encouraging news regarding the Raiders' passing attack, but Walker's playing time is yet to be determined and may serve in a limited role. He should remain reserved in fantasy leagues, especially against a tough Bills' defense that is coming off a big win over the Jaguars.

Gage to be game-time decision

Justin Gage missed his third straight practice Friday due to his groin injury and will be a game-time decision for Sundays' contest against Houston, according to the Nashville City Paper. He said, "I'm getting better each day. We'll find out Sunday if I can go."

Our View: Gage was the top target in the Titans' passing attack in Week 2 during Kerry Collins' first start, and Gage will be missed if he cannot go. Brandon Jones would likely start in his place if needed.

Porter not likely to play

Jerry Porter is questionable but coach Jack Del Rio does not expect him to make his Jaguars' debut this weekend, according to Jaguars.com. He is still recovering from surgery on his hamstring.

Our View: Porter should remain reserved on fantasy rosters.

Rice limited

Sidney Rice was limited in Friday's practice while recovering from a sprained PCL in his right knee, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View: He is questionable, but does not appear to be fit to play Sunday against Carolina. Robert Ferguson is believed to play an expanded role with Rice ailing.

Peterson limited in practice

Adrian Peterson was limited in Friday's practice due to tightness in his hamstring and coach Brad Childress indicated that he will be a game-time decision Sunday against Carolina, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View: Childress will consult with Peterson and the Vikings' medical staff before making a decision on his availability. He noted that he doesn't want the hamstring injury to become a chronic problem. Fantasy owners should have Chester Taylor ready to go in case Peterson is held out.

Berrian remains limited

Bernard Berrian remains limited in practice due to his toe ailment, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View: Despite not fully practicing, he is listed as probable on the injury report. It looks like he will start Sunday against the Panthers, and is worth consideration as a No. 3 receiver in Gus Frerotte's first start of the season.

Robinson to be more involved?

Falcons' coach Mike Smith indicated that Laurent Robinson needs to be more involved in the offense, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: Robinson was a top candidate to start opposite Roddy White this season, but he suffered a tailbone injury and Michael Jenkins proved to be a better blocker, which is key in coordinator Mike Mularkey's offense. Robinson feels his blocking has improved and is also confident he is fully recovered from his ailment. Robinson has solid vertical skills and looks to gradually push Jenkins for playing time and potentially the starting gig. Robinson is worth targeting as a reserve with upside.

Little to be game-time decision

Leonard Little will be a game-time decision for Week 3, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. He practiced on a limited basis Friday while hindered by a hamstring injury.

Our View: Coach Scott Linehan previously stated he is 50-50 to play Sunday. He is the anchor of the Rams' pass rush and Matt Hasselbeck and the Seahawks' passing attack would catch a break if he cannot go.

Gregg to miss two weeks

Updating an earlier report, Kelly Gregg is expected to miss at least two more weeks due to knee pain in his recovery from arthroscopic surgery, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Coach John Harbaugh said, "What it amounts to is he's got kind of a hole in his cartilage that rubs bone to bone, and because of that he's actually got a real sensitive spot on his bone. When he unloads on a block, that's when he feels the pain. It's almost like you've got a scab on your bone, and he tears the scab off."

Our View: Justin Bannan will make another start at nose tackle in his place. Gregg is an elite pro, and running back Jamal Lewis will benefit by his absence this weekend as Cleveland heads to Baltimore.

Saints ink Harrington

Joey Harrington has found a new home as he has been signed by the Saints, according to Fox Sports. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Saints waived defensive tackle Alvin McKinley to make room on the roster.

Our View: He will hold no fantasy value while relegated to clipboard duty as the No. 3 quarterback in New Orleans.

Booker would see more action

Marty Booker would see more action in the passing game if Devin Hester (ribs) is unable to play Sunday against the Buccaneers, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Even if Booker was a starter, he would not merit much fantasy consideration. The 32-year-old vet is far removed from his 100-reception campaign with the Bears in 2001.

Jordan remains out

LaMont Jordan missed another practice due to his foot injury, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Jordan will likely be ruled out for Sunday's game against Miami.

Maroney returns to practice

Laurence Maroney returned to practice Friday after missing time due to his shoulder injury, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The two practices he missed were in full pads, and today's practice was in shells (light shoulder pads) and shorts. His status for Week 3 against Miami remains in question.

McGahee to get more involved?

Willis McGahee may get more involved and rotate with rookie Ray Rice at running back (starting this week against the Browns), according to the Baltimore Sun. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said, "He's getting more reps in practice. Those are the two backs that we're going with (McGahee and Rice). Willis' role will increase. I think today's practice and tomorrow's practice will determine how much of a role he really has."

Our View: McGahee fared well against Cleveland last season with a pair of 100-yard games, and their run defense has already been exposed against Dallas and Pittsburgh in the first two games of 2008. It remains to be seen how many carries McGahee will get in his first game of the season, but he has potential to have a solid outing.

Green will not play

Coach Gary Kubiak indicated that Ahman Green will not play this week due to his sore ankle, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Steve Slaton is expected to start against the Titans, with Chris Taylor lending support as the primary backup. Kubiak did not speculate when Green may be ready to return.

More carries for Jackson

Steven Jackson only ran the ball 27 times (for 93 yards) over the first two weeks of the season but offensive coordinator Al Saunders intends to give him a heftier workload in Week 3 at Seattle, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Saunders said, "We have to get the ball to our best player, No. 39. He hasn't run the ball enough, and we need to make sure that we establish our run. Steven is a special back."

Our View: The Rams currently rank last in the NFL in total offense, and Jackson ranks outside the top-25 in rushing yards. It is important to get the running game going this weekend as Seattle loves to blitz and would tee off on Marc Bulger if always in a predictable passing situation.

Friday Morning Injury Roundup

Week Three Friday Injury Roundup
---------------------------------
Quarterbacks
-----------------

Bengal QB Carson Palmer (ankle) practiced again Thursday and will start.

Steeler QB Ben Roethlisberger (right shoulder) practiced again Thursday
and will start.

Running Backs
-----------------

Brown RB Jamal Lewis (ankle) was limited again in Thursday's practice, but
is expected to start.

Charger RB LaDainian Tomlinson (jammed toe) was held out of Thursday's
practice as expected. Thursday was the team's first real practice of the
week, since the game is being held on Monday instead of Sunday. We're told
Tomlinson may try to do some limited practicing by Saturday just to test
his injured toe, but the expectation is that he'll be in the starting
lineup on Monday night. If he can't play, backup RB Darren Sproles would
start with rookie FBs Jacob Hester and Mike Tolbert also seeing carries.

49er RB Frank Gore (general soreness) practiced Thursday and will start.
The team rested him Wednesday after being in such a physical game last
week against the Seahawks. His legs were very sore after that game.

Jaguar backup RB Maurice Jones-Drew (ankle) was rested Wednesday and took
in less than his usual amount of reps in Thursday's practice. However, the
team expects him to be able to play on Sunday. RB Fred Taylor (toe)
practiced Thursday and is expected to start.

Packer RB Ryan Grant (hamstring) took in less than his usual amount of
practice reps again Thursday. The coaches plan to cut down his playing
time again like last week, since his hamstring isn't near 100%.

Patriot starting RB Laurence Maroney (shoulder) missed practice again
Thursday and is considered questionable to play. Maroney and backup RB
LaMont Jordan (foot) have yet to practice this week. If Maroney can't
play, backup RB Sammy Morris would likely start.

Saint RB Deuce McAllister (knee) was removed from the injury report after
practicing Thursday. However, we're told his status for Sunday won't be
decided until they make a decision on backup RB Aaron Stecker's
(hamstring) status. Stecker was limited again in Thursday's practice.

Seahawk RB Maurice Morris (knee) is out again with backup RB Julius Jones
filling in. We're told the team doesn't think he'll start practicing until
after their Week Four bye.

Texan starting RB Ahman Green (ankle) missed practice again Thursday and
is considered doubtful to play. Rookie RB Steve Slaton is expected to
start with RB Chris Taylor backing him up.

Viking starting RB Adrian Peterson (hamstring) was held out of Thursday's
practice. We're told the team doesn't want him to aggravate the injury,
since he did quite a bit of work in Wednesday's practice, despite being
listed as limited. Friday is the key day for Peterson. As long as he can
do at least limited work, we're told the team would expect him to play.
The concern is that they don't want to overwork his hamstring before the
game. Backup RB Chester Taylor would start if needed. Backup RB Maurice
Hicks (foot) practiced again Thursday and would back up Taylor if Peterson
couldn't play.

Wide Receivers
-----------------

Bear starting WR Devin Hester (torn rib cartilage) was held out again of
Thursday's practice. Hester told the coaches that he feels good enough to
play the he still could be held out of Sunday's game. If Hester can't
play, WR Rashied Davis would likely start for him with backup S Danieal
Manning handling kick returns.

Bill backup WR/PR Roscoe Parrish (knee) was limited again in Thursday's
practice, but should be able to play.

Brown KR/PR/WR Josh Cribbs (shoulder) was limited again in Thursday's
practice and is considered questionable to play. Starting WR Donte'
Stallworth (quadriceps) missed practice again Thursday and is considered
very questionable to play. Starting WR Braylon Edwards (shoulder) took in
mostly non-contact work again in Thursday's practice, but he's expected to
start.

Buccaneer WR Joey Galloway (foot) missed practice again Thursday and is
considered doubtful to play. Starting WR Antonio Bryant is expected to
start in Galloway's spot with backup WR Michael Clayton starting on the
other side.

Eagle starting WR Kevin Curtis (hernia) remains out with backup WR Hank
Baskett filling in. The team believes he could start practicing in about
two weeks. Starting WR Reggie Brown (hamstring) practiced again Thursday.
We're told he's expected to play but the coaches may bring him off the
bench this week, since he's missed so much playing and practice time. Look
for rookie WR DeSean Jackson to start again for him.

49er starting ORT Jonas Jennings (shoulder) is out. Backup OT Barry Sims
fills in.

Jaguar starting WR Jerry Porter (hamstring) still couldn't go through a
full practice on Thursday and is considered questionable to play. Backup
WR Matt Jones would start again if Porter can't play.

Jet WR Laveranues Coles (thigh) took in limited practice reps again
Thursday, but is expected to start.

Ram starting WR Drew Bennett (foot) is expected to miss at least two more
weeks and isn't practicing. Backup WR Dane Looker fills in.

Saint starting WR Marques Colston (thumb) remains out for at least three
more weeks with backup WR David Patten starting for him.

Seahawk WR Bobby Engram (shoulder) is out. Starting WR Deion Branch (knee)
won't play this week but is doing some light practicing. Branch hasn't had
an unrestricted practice since last January. Both are expected to start
practicing with the team in two weeks. WR Courtney Taylor is expected to
start for Branch with the other spot still up in the air. WR Koren
Robinson (knee), who just signed with the team two days ago, couldn't
practice fully on Thursday. The team won't make a decision on who will
start until after Friday's practice at the earliest.

Titan starting WR Justin Gage (groin) missed practice again Thursday.
We're told Gage is about a 70-30 to start on Sunday. If he can't play,
backup WR Brandon Jones would start for him.

Viking starting WR Sidney Rice (knee) missed practice again Thursday and
is considered very questionable to play. Backup WR Bobby Wade would likely
start if Rice can't play. WR Bernard Berrian (toe) was limited again in
Thursday's practice, but is expected to start. Berrian had problems with
his feet over the last few seasons but has been able to play though the
injuries.

Tight Ends
-----------------

Bengal TE Ben Utecht (chest) missed practice again Thursday, and is
considered very questionable to play.

Colt TE Dallas Clark (knee) practiced again and will start, barring a
setback. Clark isn't listed on the injury report.

Cowboy TE Jason Witten (separated shoulder) practiced again Thursday and
is expected to start.

Raven TE Todd Heap (wrist) practiced again Thursday and is expected to
start.

Offensive Line
-----------------

Bear starting OLT Chris Williams remains out for several weeks.

Bronco starting C Tom Nalen (knee) is out with backup C Casey Wiegmann
filling in.

Brown starting LG Eric Steinbach (shoulder) missed practice again Thursday
and is considered questionable to play.

Charger OLT Marcus McNeill (back) practiced Thursday and there's a good
chance he'll start. His return would be a huge boost for their offense.

Colt C Jeff Saturday (knee) practiced again and will start barring a
setback. Saturday isn't listed on the injury report.

Colt starting OLT Tony Ugoh (groin) missed practice again Thursday and is
considered very questionable to play.

is considered questionable to play.

again in Thursday's practice, but should be cleared to play by Sunday.

and is considered doubtful to play.

Seahawk OLT Walter Jones (hip) was held out of Thursday's practice, but is
expected to start.

Place Kickers
-----------------

Giant K Lawrence Tynes (knee) was limited again in Thursday's practice.
Backup K John Carney may have to fill in again for him on Sunday.

Jet K Mike Nugent (thigh) remains out. Backup K Jay Feely is filling in.

Defensive Line
-----------------

Brown starting DE Robaire Smith (Achilles) was placed on IR.

Falcon DT Grady Jackson (knee) was limited again in Thursday's practice
and is considered questionable to play. Jackson's knee swelled up before
last week's game.

Lion starting DT Cory Redding (ankle) missed practice again Thursday and
is considered questionable to play.

Ram DE Leonard Little (hamstring) was limited again in Thursday's practice
and is considered questionable to play.

Raven DT Kelly Gregg (knee) missed practice again Thursday and is
considered doubtful to play.

Redskin DE Jason Taylor (knee) practiced Thursday and is expected to
start.

Steeler starting DE Brett Keisel (calf) isn't practicing and won't play.

Thursday's practice, but is expected to start.

Cardinal starting OLB Travis LaBoy (ankle) didn't practice Thursday and is
considered questionable to play.

Falcon SLB Michael Boley (neck) was limited again during Thursday's
practice, but should be able to start.

Jaguar starting OLB Justin Durant (groin) missed practice again Thursday
and is considered very questionable to play. Backup OLB Clint Ingram would
start if needed.

Redskin MLB London Fletcher (rib) was rested by the coaches on Thursday,
but is expected to start. Starting SLB Marcus Washington (hamstring)
practiced Thursday and is expected to start.

Saint starting SLB Scott Fujita (knee) missed practice again Thursday and
is considered doubtful to play.

Steeler ILB James Farrior (back) was limited in Thursday's practice, but
is expected to start.

-----------------

Bill CB Terence McGee (back) was limited in Thursday's practice, but
should be able to start.

Brown starting SS Sean Jones (knee) remains out for at least two more
weeks.

Chief starting CB Patrick Surtain (shoulder) is out. Rookie CB Brandon
Carr will likely start for him.

Colt starting SS Bob Sanders (ankle/knee) will miss at least four weeks
with backup S Melvin Bullitt filling in.

Colt CB Marlin Jackson (hip) didn't practice Thursday, but should be able
to start.

Cowboy starting CB Terence Newman (groin) practiced again Thursday and is
expected to play, but he may not start since he's not 100%.

Cowboy starting SS Roy Williams (broken forearm) will miss at least three
weeks.

49er nickel CB Shawntae Spencer (knee) is out.

Packer CB Charles Woodson (toe) was held out of again of Thursday's
practice, but is expected to start.

Packer starting SS Atari Bigby (hamstring) missed practice again Thursday
and is considered questionable to play.

Redskin backup CB Fred Smoot (hip) was limited in Thursday's practice and
is considered questionable to play. Starting CB Carlos Rodgers (groin)
practiced Thursday and is expected to start.

Saint CB Aaron Glenn (ankle) missed practice again Thursday and is not
expected to play. CB Randall Gay (hamstring) was limited again in

could start his first game this season if Gay can't play.

Saint starting SS Roman Harper (hamstring) was limited again in Thursday's
practice and is considered questionable to play.

Seahawk starting CB Kelly Jennings (rib) missed practice again Thursday
and is considered questionable to play.

Steeler starting CB Deshea Townsend (bruised heel) missed practice again
Thursday and is considered doubtful to play. Backup CB Bryant McFadden
would start again if Townsend is out.

Viking SS Madieu Williams (neck) missed practice again Thursday and won't
be able to play. Rookie S Tyrell Johnson is expected to start again for
him.

He is a great start in Week 3 against the Lions, but he might just be a regular fantasy starter before long. He is no lock, but we love this kid's upside!

  • According to StarTribune.com, Vikings coach Brad Childress said that RB Adrian Peterson did not practice on Thursday due to his hamstring injury. We'll just see how he comes out by the time we get to Sunday."

OPINION: The chances of AP sitting out Week 3 just went up, but obviously monitor this situation right up to kickoff. The runner might be a game-time decision this week. Hopefully AP owners drafted Chester, as we so strongly advised this off-season. We will keep you posted - Hopefully AP will be a go in Week 3.

So, if convicted, Marshall could avoid a 2008 suspension and be looking at a suspension in 2009, but nothing is crystal clear at this point.

  • According to Jaguars.com, Jaguars WR Jerry Porter is reportedly nearing a full recovery from his July hamstring surgery - The receiver could play on Sunday. "Jerry Porter will practice," coach Jack Del Rio said on Wednesday. "When I have to declare on Friday, I will. When he's ready, we'll play him."

OPINION: Del Rio won't reveal Porter's Week 3 status until Friday's injury report. Even if he practices fully on Friday, Porter is expected to be listed as questionable and could end up being a game-time decision on Sunday. Once back and fully recovered, Porter could become a fantasy WR3.

  • According to Cleveland.com, Browns WR Braylon Edwards apparently has an injured shoulder and was limited during Wednesday's practice.

OPINION: The Browns have said nothing about Edwards' injured wing, but so far it doesn't sound serious. However, monitor this situation all week. We're never going to tell you to bench Edwards, but the Browns have a very difficult match-up this week against the Ravens. It's tough to expect a monster outing. We will keep you posted on the stud's shoulder.

  • According to Jaguars.com, Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew will see his workload increase in Week 3 against the Colts. "We have to get him the ball more. I agree with him. He's an exciting, dynamic football player. We need to find a way to get him touches," Del Rio said.

"We're going to use all of our good players and put them in positions where they do what they do well," Harbaugh said. "So we're going to put our running backs out there and let them play.

OPINION: Be careful when reading other news wires that are spinning this into a RBBC story. For more on this Baltimore running back situation, check out or recent Player Spotlight on McGahee.

  • According to CarolinaGrowl.com, Panthers coach John Fox still considers DeAngelo Williams the team's starting running back, even though the team counted on rookie RB Jonathan Stewart in the fourth quarter in Week 2. "In my mind both backs are of starter ability and right now DeAngelo (Williams) as I see moving forward is the starter," Fox said. "Jonathan Stewart, again, we are just easing him back into it. He hasn't had a lot of plays, and I think he'll continue to improve and we'll go as we are right now."

OPINION: From a fantasy perspective, Jonathan Stewart is the starter. Not actually being handed the keys to the starting line-up could end up being a good thing this week, as the Panthers face the Vikings and you don't want his first "official" start to be against that rushing defense. Between the two, Stewart is still the better Week 3 start and we expect the rookie to officially get the starting nod in Week 4 or 5 - Once the job is his, Stewart has top 10RB written all over him.

Saints Lose Colston For The Next 4-6 Weeks

Saints third-year WR Marques Colston is going to miss the next 4-6 weeks after quietly having surgery Tuesday on his thumb to repair a torn ligament.

This is HUGE news for Colston owners as he was expected to finish as a top five fantasy WR. Robert Meachem was a healthy inactive last weekend but will likely be a major part of the passing game from here on out. David Patten and Devery Henderson also increase in value. It's likely one of those three are on waivers and we urge you NOT to hesitate getting at least one of them on your roster if you own Colston.

Jones Out Several Weeks

Jones Out Several Weeks

Browns DB Sean Jones is expected to miss "several weeks" after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

HC Romeo Crennel said Jones will not be placed on injured reserve, but this is a huge blow for the secondary as DB Brodney Pool is dealing with a concussion. DB Mike Adams will likely get the start this weekend against the Steelers.
