20) Matt Leinart, Arizona
If you think that Brady and the Patriots will operate the same way next year, then there is a clear advantage to drafting him early – second round in my opinion, although in drafts I have already seen, he is going in the first round. This is an overreaction as those of you who saw Peyton Manning drafted in the first round after he set the record for TD passes in a season well know.
In 2008, Kurt Warner will likely drop out of this group –at least at the beginning of the season as Matt Leinart will be the starter for the Cardinals (unless he tanks in spring and pre-season workouts). Any of the quarterbacks who can give you 19 points per game and be drafted well after the first six or seven will be the best values – as Roethlisberger, Hasselbeck and Favre were this year. If I had to look for one to move up in this group next year it would be Hasselbeck – assuming that Holmgren returns to Seattle next season and lets Hasselbeck throw like he did in the later half of 2007.
Aside from Bulger returning to this list, I think the one not in the Top Twelve this year most likely to move into that group in 2008 would be Jay Cutler in a Denver Broncos offense that will be looking to pass more than they did last season.
